Parasara Bhattar

His Birth:

Swamy SriParasara Bhattar is the thirukumaran of SriKoorathAzhwar(Kuresa) and SriAndal. Swamy Koorathazhwan and Andal did not have children for a while.

On a rainy day in SriRangam, Koorathazhwan could not go out for Unchavriti. So he and Andal did not have prasadam . While Koorathazhwan was reciting divyaprabham to his aradhana perumal, Andal was worried that she could not feed Koorathazhwan .She heard the sound of bell ringing in the koil, which happens to be the naivedhyam time for Divya-Dampatis. , she prayed the Lord Ranganatha .

Just to their surprise , the couple could hear the festivities right in front of their Thirumaligai .When they opened the door, they saw the Koil officials with the prasadam. The officials stated that, Lord Ranganatha ordered them to offer his prasadam to Koorathazhwar and Andal. The couple thanked the Lord and had the prasadam for dinner. With the divine blessings of the Divya-Dhampathis, Andal gave birth to Swamy Parasara Bhattar and Swamy VedaVyasa Bhattar(SriRama pillai).

SriParasara Bhattar, born with the Kataksham of Periya Perumal and SriRanganayaki Thayar. They accepted Bhattar as their own child and took care of him in his infancy when he was in the cradle tied to the Kalyana Thungal(Pillars), while Koorathazhwan and Andal were busy with their Kainkaryam .

Thus SwamyParasara Bhattar had the greatest privilege of growing up as the child of the Divya-dampathis themselves and also as the child of the best parents – Swamy Koorathazhwan and SriAndal .Best of all, he grew up with the blessings and under the personal care of SriRamanuja as he is the one who prayed lord Ranganatha to bless his favorite disciple Kuresa with children and also named him SriParasara Bhattar after SriParasara – who wrote VishuPuranam(considered to be the gem among Puranas) , thus fulfilling the last of the 3 promises he made to his Acharya Yamunacharya.
